PURPOSE
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate successfully as a Freight Handler within the transport sector. A freight handler receives, allocates, stores, picks, reconciles and dispatches freight through a storage facility.
A qualified learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate receiving of freight
- Demonstrate allocation of freight for storage and control of stock
- Prepare and ensure the picking of freight for loading/off-loading processes according to specified procedures
- Reconcile and dispatch freight according to the legislation
This qualification reflects workplace-based needs in the wider Freight Handling Industry, both now and in the future. Freight Handling is diverse in nature, therefore a fairly wide range of competencies are required by employees. The qualification aims to provide the foundational and initial skills required for an individual in the industry to handle freight successfully, be an effective team member, and to undertake those tasks required to contribute to the effective processing of freight.

- Plan and co-ordinate freight movement of cargo
- Prepare and process data/documentation associated with international trade in compliance with applicable and current legislation
- Plan and co-ordinate customs clearing, delivery and pickup of cargo
- Conduct cargo forwarding processes
- Warehouse and distribution theory
- Prepare receipts of cargo to be distributed
- Prepare documents for receipt, storage and removal of warehoused cargo
- Communication and documentation for warehousing processes and requirements
- Documentation for distribution processes and procedures
- Compliance and brokerage theory
- Audit commodities against customs and other statutory requirements
- Apply rebate, drawback and bond facilities
- Process customs compliance procedures
- Duration: 12 Months

- Learners are required to have an NQF Level 2 qualification in order to be considered for admission
